If there’s one hill I’ll stand on forever, it’s that you should batch-record your podcast episodes—especially when you have 2346327 other things going on (like running your business, raising kids, or heading into the holidays).
Batch recording is when you sit down and record multiple episodes in one “session” or sit-down. You’re not recording the day before (or the day of) your podcast goes live. And while you may not know why or how it’ll be a complete game-changer in how you approach your podcast yet, you will soon—just read (or listen) until the end.
Let’s break down what batch recording is and why it’s going to be so helpful to your show:
As always, you can listen to the corresponding podcast episode from the Moms Who Podcast show here:
Batch recording is simply recording your episodes in batches—the actual amount of episodes recorded is up to you! You can record two episodes or five; it just depends on how long in between batches you want to go.
You can also batch record a few backup episodes for when you’re sick (or your kids), mother nature strikes or life happens (as it does).
I recommend batching 2-3 episodes ahead—or at least one episode ahead and always having it recorded and ready to go.
Batch recording your podcast episodes allows you more freedom and flexibility during your week—you’re not required to sit down and record; instead, you can focus on client work, edit and publish the episode, or even repurpose it for other platforms.
Essentially, it saves time and provides more flexibility.
Before you can batch your episodes, you need to plan them out—you can’t record an episode that doesn’t have a title, theme, or really any purpose (if you need a little help with this, I highly recommend booking a podcast strategy session to help you get unstuck).
Once you have a few episode ideas planned, I like to go a little further and map out what I want to cover in each episode. You can script your episode if that’s more convenient or comfortable for you, but I’ve found that working with a few bullet points for guidance vs. a word-for-word script works best for me!
Finally, you’ll set aside a few hours and start recording! Now, you’re only recording; you don’t have to sit down and edit your episodes all at once. Come back and do that as you go or later in the week so you’re not overwhelmed by the work.
And ta-da! You have a batch of podcast episodes you don’t have to worry about for a while.
I promise you that batching your podcast episodes will save you so much time compared to doing them as you go. Not only is it your mindset, but you’re also setting aside dedicated, distraction-free time to work on your podcast—and it really pays off.
Batch recording also allows you to stay more consistent with your show and makes sure you have an episode going out weekly or bi-weekly, helping you stay more visible to your audience.
If you want to save even more time, let me handle your podcast editing and publishing. All you have to do is upload your episode to a Google folder, and I’ll do the rest! Inquire here to see if we’re a good fit 😉
