Facebook and Instagram are some of my favorite social media platforms for marketing my business and podcast, but I admit I wasn’t sold on paying to verify my account. It wasn’t until I was dealing with a hacked IG account that I changed my mind and really considered whether or not I should get Meta verified — and I did!
So, what is Meta Verified? According to Meta, Meta Verified is a paid subscription for eligible profiles to establish their presence on Instagram and Facebook. Meta Verified members get a few extra perks and benefits that we’ll cover today so that you can decide if it’s for you!
The main benefit of Meta Verified is the blue check mark that establishes your account’s authenticity. You’ll also be asked to provide a selfie video that helps identify you if your account is ever hacked.
Next is exclusive, members-only features like stickers on Facebook and Instagram stories and a hundred stars a month on Facebook so you can show your support for other creators.
The feature that drew me in (thanks to getting my account hacked) is the proactive account protection from impersonation. You’ll be required to set up two-factor authentication for your account for that little extra layer of security.
Finally, they offer direct account support. Essentially, if you need help, you’ll be able to get it from a real person. Whenever you’re having trouble, you can shoot IG a message and just ask, “What’s up?”
Yes! While you won’t get the other features/benefits of being Meta Verified, you can get the authentication marker (the little blue check) by being Meta Verified on Instagram!
Instagram is the number one social media platform that I use day in and day out. I’m always on my stories, and although I don’t post much on my feed, I’m always engaging in the community. And, I’ll be 100% honest — one of the reasons I joined is because I wanted the blue badge.
A blue badge looks good (I love it) and also brings a sense of trust to my account. For example, if you’re looking at a celebrity’s Instagram account and it’s not Meta Verified, it’s probably not them.
Now, outside of the blue badge, I joined for account protection. Copycats are popping up daily, mimicking both small and large accounts, and I don’t want mine to be next on their list.
You’ve probably heard this a million times, but I’m going to repeat it: you do not own social media. This means if your account gets hacked, that’s it — yes, you might get it back, but ultimately these platforms are not going fix everything for us; they’re more worried about their bigger picture.
You cannot rely on social media alone to market your business and make it sustainable in the long run; you have to diversify. Get on Pinterest, build a website, or start a podcast. Focus on multiple different ways to get your business visible! And if you’re ready to get visible but you’re not sure where to start, join me in my Facebook group Moms Who Podcast, and brainstorm with the community! -> Join Moms Who Podcast!
