All you hear right now is that you need to start a podcast for your business. And while it might sound tempting, something is holding you back – you just can’t quite commit to starting. Maybe it’s because you don’t feel like a podcaster or maybe it’s because you don’t know why you should start podcasting.
So, why start a podcast for your business? Like any marketing, podcasting improves your business’s visibility. It’s sharing your ideas, and offers, and attracting your ideal client and audience. But while podcasting is a great platform and tool for your business, that doesn’t mean it’s for everyone.
Since you’re here, let’s break down all the reasons explaining why start a podcast for your business – and if it’s right for you.
As always, you can listen to the related episode on Moms Who Podcast here:
We’re going to talk about facts, stats, and a few personal opinions (I am a podcast manager after all). Sometimes you need to hear the numbers, sometimes you need to hear the experience – and that’s what we’re going to break down today.
Some of these are what inspired me to start both of my podcasts, Moms Who Podcast and Mama Knows Business and why I love helping other moms start their podcasts too. If I did not share these with you, I would be doing you a disservice and I’m not gonna let that happen.
Let’s shed all the light on why you should start a podcast for your business:
You’re audience is already there and they’re already interested, they’re just waiting to listen. Rather than investing in new leads, you’re warming up pre-existing leads and improving your relationships.
Podcasting is a way for you to give free information to your audience and share the inner workings of your brain (in a good way). You’re able to teach without restrictions – and without recording your face.
And by reaching more people, you can do things like sell your offer. Or, if selling is not on your list, you can work on building a contact list of your ideal client. And by building your email list you’re creating another point of contact with your audience – one that doesn’t rely on social media.
It’s more eyes on your offers, and more eyes equals more sales. When you have people looking at what you do and what you offer, you’re able to connect with them, and in turn, they’re interested in what you’re selling.
There’s an incoming shift from video to audio media and you want to get in on it! In a comparison back in 2021, Convince&Convert noticed that while there are 69 million Netflix account owners in the U.S., there are 80 million Americans who are weekly podcast listeners.
Did you know that audio can be indexed on Google? This means that your podcast and podcast episodes can show up in search. By adding your website and optimizing your podcast descriptions, you can improve your website SEO.
Why start a podcast for your business? Because it’s effective and has a really low start-up cost, why not? I have five kids, I work full time, and I have a second podcast that I run on top of my clients, and it’s added very little to my monthly expenses to maintain.
AKA podcasting is not saturated. There is more room for you to grow and audio is on the rise – it’s the perfect combination for any small business to consider starting a podcast of their own. Even Neil Patel, marketing guru, thinks you should prioritize starting a podcast over starting a blog.
Long-form content like videos and blog posts build trust and podcasting is no different. Podcasting gives your audience a way to trust what you have to say, trust in your expertise, and rely on the information you’re sharing to improve their life and/or business.
That’s up 57% from 2021 and is still trending up through 2023 and is expected to continue in 2024. That’s over half the population.
Sometimes you just need something to feel good about and that’s podcasting. As a mom, sometimes it’s hard to feel good at anything – I won’t lie, my confidence is absolutely lacking.
But, podcasting can be your outlet. It allows you to speak and be heard, and get passionate/show your passion about your business.
And, as you record more, you feel that confidence growing. You get more comfortable speaking, you learn what works for you and what doesn’t. And it’s so good for introverts who have so much to say but never can because it’s faceless and it’s pre-recorded.
You can trim out the ums and ifs, you can record cuddled on your couch in the evening or at 5 am when you’re kids are kinda quiet.
What do you think? Are you sold on podcasting? Ready to get started or still thinking about it?
If you’re still thinking about it, I want to invite you to my close-knit community of moms over on Facebook and share your thoughts and concerns – HEAD OVER TO THE MOMS WHO PODCAST COMMUNITY.
